Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
on NRI Loan Documents
Do NRI documents need to be attested?
Yes. All overseas documents must be self-attested first. For higher loan amounts or if the bank requests it, documents must also be notarised by a public notary and attested by the Indian Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence. Our team will guide you on exactly which documents need attestation for your specific bank.
Can I apply for an NRI home loan without visiting India?
Yes, absolutely. You can complete the entire application process remotely. You will need to execute a Power of Attorney (PoA) to authorise a trusted person in India to sign documents on your behalf. The PoA must be notarised and attested by the Indian Embassy in your country before it can be used in India.
How long should my documents be valid?
Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of application. Visa/residence permits should be valid for at least 3 months. Bank statements and salary slips must not be older than 3–6 months from the date of submission.
What if some documents are in a foreign language?
All foreign language documents must be accompanied by a certified English translation. The translation must be done by a certified translator and notarised. Our team can connect you with certified translators for Arabic, French, German, Mandarin, and other major languages.
Is there a minimum CIBIL score required?
Most banks require a minimum CIBIL score of 700 for NRI home loan approval. A score of 750+ qualifies you for the best interest rates. If you have a low or no CIBIL score, some banks consider your overseas credit report as an alternative.
Can I use my spouse's income for joint NRI home loan?
Yes. You can apply as co-borrowers with your spouse. If your spouse is also an NRI, the same set of documents applies to them. If your spouse is a resident Indian, they need standard resident Indian income and KYC documents. Adding a co-borrower with a stable income significantly increases your loan eligibility amount.
